LMIA

LMIA

BGS Immigration Consultancy assists employers in obtaining a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) by guiding them through the entire process—job advertising, documentation, and application submission—to help hire qualified foreign workers legally and efficiently.
If you’re an employer looking to hire or a foreign worker wanting to understand the LMIA process, we provide expert guidance to navigate the requirements smoothly.

What is an LMIA?
An LMIA is a document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that assesses the impact of hiring a foreign worker on Canada’s labour market.

A positive LMIA means the employer is allowed to hire a foreign worker.
A negative LMIA means the employer’s request is denied.

This process helps protect Canadian jobs while allowing employers to fill labor shortages when qualified Canadians are not available.

When is an LMIA Needed?
An LMIA is usually required when:

Employers want to hire a temporary foreign worker in most low- or high-skilled jobs.
Applying for a work permit through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).
Supporting applications for permanent residence where a job offer is part of the process.

Note: Some categories are exempt from LMIA, such as intra-company transfers, spouses of skilled workers, or under International Mobility Program.
